#9513 new defect

copy-paste

Reported by: stanislav.l Owned by: EionRobb
Milestone: Component: unclassified
Version: 2.5.7 Keywords:

Description

Scientific Linux 4.5

Copy-Paste is working in a strange manner: sometimes it works well, sometimes I get only a '<' character after "paste", sometimes nothing; it's behaviour depends on TO WHAT WINDOW I do "paste". If I do "copy" from log window, it seems to me that the result of "paste" is different if the log window was closed before "paste" or not ... At the same time "paste as plain text" usually work well. Sorry for bad description of the problem.

I used GAIM 1 week ago and "copy-paste" worked better (though not perfectly)

Copy and paste in the linux world requires that the pasting application/window remain in existance until after the paste completes or that a clipboard managing application be running. So the fact that you cannot paste log window contents after closing the log window is not particularly surprising.

Can you explain the rest of your issue more clearly?

Can you explain the rest of your issue more clearly?

No, I can't :)

I open log window and copy something (and leave this window open). Then I open a new letter window in Mozilla and do "paste" - it works, but only once ! The second "paste" in the same window does not change anything. It does not work in another new window, does not work at all. (I can do a new "copy" or no, nothing changes)

At the same time, "Paste as plain text" works well.

Now I open a conversation window in Pidgin - Yahoo or ICQ. "Paste" - I get only one "<" character ; "Paste as plain text" - works well.

New conversation window in Pidgin - MSN. "Paste" works in the same manner as "Paste as plain text"

I open an OpenOffice? document window and after "paste" I get something like this:

<font color="#A82F2F"><font size="2">(13:04:53)</font><font size="3"> <b>rajroark:</b></font></font><font size="3"></font><font size="3"> Hi</font>

Is it "more clearly" ? :) I don't know how it works, I can only try something else if you need.

Are you using any sort of clipboard monitoring program or anything like that?

No. Should I try any one ? Then tell me, please, what should I watch for.

Does pasting break if you don't try to paste into Mozilla? That is can you paste into pidgin conversation windows more than once if that is the first thing you try?

Exactly the same thing: (after rebooting the system) copy from log window, paste to conversation window - 1st paste - OK, 2nd one - character '<' (I did nothing between 1st & 2nd paste)
