Hi, just a quick question.

Is this tread also for the connection to LCS/OCS?

I use a protocol plugin (pidgin-sipe-1.6) for that right now and the developer has kindly added voice call functionality.

What I'd like to know is what is foreseen in pidgin in the sense of buttons to do call, conference, hangup and transfer.

The plugin developer would then like to use this existing button from the plugin.

Cheers,

Michel

I added a few simple shots of how I imagine a phase1 implementation.

I currently use X-Lite, but to be able to use Pidgin would be far better.

Pidgin already supports Jabber Voice Chat, which is a quite cool feature. Supporting Voice Calls over SIP would bring Pidgin one more step to be feature-complete. As there are probably some good libraries for sip-voice-backend available, this could be some easy task.

thanks in advance!

Hi! I want to call from pidgin! How i should make it? Thank you!

kovyrlo: This is not the appropriate place for you to ask a question. Support for SIP voice and video does not exist yet.

mhegeraat: No, this ticket is not the place for discussion about SIPe. If SIPe implements vv correctly, the standard Pidgin interface will just work. If customizations are desired, they do not belong in the SIPe plugin--protocol plugins are not allowed to contain UI code. This is something that is probably better discussed on the development mailing list.

The sip developer agrees with you and tells me the IM window of pidgin is not something he wants to touch, but he will simply use what is there.

We both agreed that there are presently no voice, (not SIPe), related buttons.

Since this is the voice /video threat, I thought this was the place to ask.

I don't quite understand your remark that "if SIP implements vv correctly the standard interface will just work"

The standard IM interface has noting that is voice or video related.....If it has tell me how to make it visible.

Am I missing the point here?

Cheers,

Michel

The media UI is not integrated in conversation window. There is a submenu under the "Conversation" menu to initiate media sessions. And there is also menu items for voice and video calls in the right-click menu for a buddy, if they are supporting it.

Thanks malu,

Indeed in these sub menu's I have for my SIPe buddies the option to connect on voice by dialing their numbers.

I feel the best way to go would be to have specific buttons to appear when voice or video connection is activated.

I mean you may want to mute voice, stop you cam from transmitting, drop the connection, etc. All soft of things you don't need when you just IM but when a voice/video connection is there this changes.

These buttons should be generic for each type of voice or video, so the developers of each protocol have something to build on.

That's why I proposed the buttons for which uploaded some screenshots.

If the IM window in not adapted for voice/video then I don't see how developers of the different protocols can turn it into something useful.

@mhegeraat

What you are talking about would actually take at least two plugins. One for the enhanced UI features and then one for the SIP backend.

Since the UI stuff would be useful to most vv services, it might be able to be included in the default plugins someday. Total speculation, who knows.

The point is, voice/video is not a core feature (yet), so they aren't going to change the whole UI for some bleeding-edge new-fangled bells and whistles, as nice as they might be.

Not really johntree, Actually the SIPE plug-in already does all the stuff needed to make the SIP connection between my desk phone or my IP communicator and whoever I dial. So that part is done.

And as soon as there is something of an interface in pidgin that the voice video developers can use, then they will!! They prefer that than building their own user interface since it will be replaced by something inside pidgin eventually.

And as I said, I don't expect/ don't want the whole UI to be changed!! It is fine :-) Just need a few extra things that appear when you do voice/video.

And this way I hopefully get "the same" interface to do my calls using SIPE, SKYPE or something else.

Is current version of Pidgin got any improvements with SIP voice call support? Support for VoIP and SIP in Pidgin is very useful for me, and now I must use other clients that support xmpp and sip simultaneously. Please post here any plans or roadmap for adding SIP calls support in Pidgin!

When SIP Protocol with Voice Support will be included in Pidgin?

Replying to Murz: +1

Ping? Has this feature been abandoned?
