    v102 v103
    1 Periodically we see or come up with ideas that would make a good Google Summer of Code project.  Many of these get forgotten when we actually get around to listing ideas for the next summer.  Here is a space to store them.
     1This page lists project ideas that may or may not be good for Summer of Code or as standalone bounties.
    22
    3 Some of these ideas may be insufficient for an entire Summer of Code project; in those cases it will probably be desirable to combine two or more ideas listed here into a single project.
     3Please feel free to ask our [https://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/devel devel mailing list] or [wiki:PidginCommunity#FindingUs XMPP chat room] for clarification, or if want to get feedback on an idea, or if you have any other questions.
    44
    5 If you need clarification on anything listed below, or want to run a new idea by us to see if we think it would make a good project, or if you have any other questions please feel free to ask on our [http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/devel devel mailing list].
     5== Important points ==
     6 * This list is editable by anyone with a wiki account—not just Pidgin developers! So these projects are not necessarily endorsed by the Pidgin project.
     7 * We have traditionally not funded development or bounties ourselves. We have no problems with 3rd parties or bounty websites funding development. Our standard code acceptance criteria applies (the change must be desirable by Pidgin users, code must be clear and concise, etc).
     8
     9== Summer of Code-specific information ==
     10 * Ideas on this list might be too easy or too hard for Summer of Code. In such cases you may wish to combine projects or reduce them.
     11 * These are '''''NOT''''' the only ideas we will consider.
     12 * Students are encouraged to think of original ideas.  A well thought-out original idea may well win out over any of the projects listed below.
     13 * We don't see a need to choose mentors ahead of time. We typically choose the most appropriate developer for a given project and assign them as the mentor once we've accepted each project. We also have no problems with you requesting a specific mentor (e.g. if you've been talking to a developer about a project).

    15 == Notes about the following ideas ==
    16 There are a few things people need to keep in mind about the ideas presented below:
    17   * These are '''''NOT''''' the only ideas we will consider.
    18   * Students are encouraged to think of original ideas.  A well thought-out original idea may well win out over any of the projects listed below.
    19   * We have not assigned mentors to projects.  This will happen ''once we decide which applications we will accept.''
